Elucidating The Education And School System In India
In our society where every parent wants their child to study in a top English medium school, the competition is quite high and such schools are limited. There are also a very few schools in India which focuses on extra-curricular activities and creativity of the students, in the same level they focus on academic subjects. Traditional schooling methods tend to focus on more theoretical education, rather than independent and practical education. There is a strong focus on examinations from an early age.
Here is how the education system in India is structured –
· Pre-school/Playschool: Education at this level is not compulsory. It includes teaching some basic social and literary skills to children ageing from 18 months to 5 year olds. The Montessori system is especially popular at the pre-school level.
· Kindergarten: This is divided into lower kindergarten which includes children aging between 3-4 year olds and upper kindergarten which includes children between 4-5 years old.
· Primary school: First to fifth standard/class/grade for the age groups of 6-10 year olds.
· Middle school: Fifth to eighth standard/class/grade for the age groups of 11-14 year olds
· Secondary school: Ninth and tenth standard/class/grade for the age groups of 14-16 year olds.
· Higher secondary level: 11th and 12th standard/class/grade for the age groups of 16-year old. In this level the students choose an academic field on which they want to focus as per their career goals. There are many ICSE and CBSE higher secondary schools in Bhubaneswar and other cities of the country.
· Undergraduate: This is a three-year degree course. It is a specialized courses which teaches the students about the insights of the subjects they have chosen as per the career goals.
· Postgraduate: A one-year specialized insightful course.
To conclude, education system has quite a few flaws but the government is now doing its best to make the education system in India more and more advanced. With this, we can hope that the Indian education system has a better and brighter future.
